The Story We love the design of the VanMoof, but we didn’t love the proprietary “black box” electronics that made them impossible to fix. We’ve kept the soul of the bike but replaced the brain.

The Upgrade We stripped out the proprietary controllers and fragile buttons that caused the famous “Error” codes. In their place, we installed industry-standard electronics.

• No more Error codes: We use reliable, universal controllers.

• Fully Repairable: Any competent e-bike mechanic can now service the electrical system. You are no longer locked into a bankrupt ecosystem.

• Standard Interface: We replaced the proprietary boost/bell buttons with a clear, easy-to-use handlebar display and control pad.

Battery & Motor

• Rebuilt Battery: The original battery casing remains, but we’ve refurbished the internals with 40 brand-new cells, matching the original range but ensuring longevity.

• Original Power: We kept the powerful front-hub motor you know and love, now controlled by a smoother, more reliable system.

• Integrated Lights: The beautiful integrated frame lights are fully functional and wired into the new system.

Condition: Circular & Honest These are refurbished trade-in bikes. While the electronics and battery cells are brand new, the frames have lived a life before reaching us. Expect some character marks, scratches, or minor cosmetic wear. We believe this adds to the story of a bike that was saved from the scrapheap to ride another day.

Choose Your Ride: We have restored multiple generations of the VanMoof lineage. While all feature our new reliable electronics, the shifting experience varies by model:

• S2 & X2 (The “Bulletproof” Choice): These models come with the legendary Mechanical Automatic Hub. It shifts gears automatically based on your speed using centrifugal force. No electronics, no servos, no software—just pure, mechanical reliability. Ideally suited for riders who want zero maintenance.

• S3 & X3 (The Classic 4-Speed): Restored with the original VanMoof E-Shifter. We’ve retained the smooth 4-speed electronic shifting you love, now managed by our upgraded controller system. It delivers that signature effortless ride, optimized for city commuting.

• S5 (The Next Gen): Features the updated Gen-5 E-Shifter. This is the refined electronic shifting system, quieter and smoother than its predecessor, fully integrated with our new electronic standard.
